Working Conditions
Full-time, based in Kampala, Uganda
1 year contract, renewable
Standard office hours with occasional requirements for extended hours or weekend work, depending on organizational needs.
Some travel outside Kampala will be required for organizational events, beneficiary engagement, training sessions, or meetings.

Job Title: HR Specialist
Location: Kampala, Uganda (with field travel)
Employment: Full-time, 1-year contract, renewable
Reports to: Chief Operations Officer
Supervision: Operations Officer
Role Overview
The HR Specialist will play a key role in shaping Yiya’s team culture and ensuring a high-performing, motivated workforce. The HR Specialist will ensure that Yiya attracts, retains, and nurtures top talent while helping build a workplace where reliability, empathy, and innovation drive growth and excellence.
Key Responsibilities
1. Recruitment, Onboarding & Employee Relations
Manage end-to-end recruitment, including job postings, screening, interviewing, and selection, to ensure that Yiya recruits top talent aligned with our values of innovation, enthusiasm, and open-mindedness.
Design and facilitate onboarding experiences that help new employees integrate seamlessly into Yiya’s culture of appreciation and quality.
Maintain an efficient and structured hiring process to meet staffing needs.
Act as a trusted HR contact, addressing concerns with empathy & reliability.
Mediate conflicts, support resolution strategies, and handle disciplinary procedures in alignment with Yiya’s values of optimism and growth.
2. HR Policies, Compliance & Data Management
Develop, update, and enforce HR policies to ensure compliance with labor laws and best practices.
Create and maintain the Yiya HR Manual, ensuring accessibility for all employees.
Manage employee records, leave tracking, and HR data, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and confidentiality.
Generate HR reports to support leadership in data-driven decision-making.
3. Performance Management & Professional Development
Coordinate regular performance reviews and quarterly check-ins that prioritize growth, constructive feedback, and appreciation.
Support managers in setting clear goals and tracking employee development.
Facilitate performance improvement plans when necessary.
Ensure that performance management processes uphold Yiya’s commitment to quality and excellence.
Support employees in identifying and pursuing professional development opportunities aligned with team and organizational goals, and tracking their growth and learnings.
4. Compensation & Benefits Administration
Support in reviewing and updating compensation structures and benefits policies.
Ensure payroll processing and benefits administration align with company policies and labor laws.
Keep up-to-date with market trends to ensure fair and competitive compensation.
5. Employee Engagement & Workplace Culture
Develop and implement initiatives that enhance employee well-being, motivation, and job satisfaction.
Encourage feedback and recognition to sustain a culture of openness, quality, and continuous improvement with appreciation and optimism
Organize engagement activities that strengthen Yiya’s team cohesion and motivation.
Qualifications & Skills
Minimum 3 years of experience in an HR role, preferably in a nonprofit organization.
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field from a recognized University (or equivalent proven experience).
Strong knowledge of Ugandan labor laws and HR best practices.
Experience in recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and benefits administration.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
Ability to work independently and handle sensitive HR matters with confidentiality and professionalism.

Job Title: Senior Manager of Monitoring, Evaluation, &
Learning (MEL), and Community Engagement
Location: Kampala, Uganda (with field travel)

Supervision: MEL and Community Engagement Departments
The Role
As the Senior Manager, MEL & Community Engagement, you will lead Yiya’s efforts in monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL), while also spearheading community engagement initiatives to build Yiya Champions who believe in our impact and support our work. You will oversee a team responsible for measuring impact, fostering relationships with key stakeholders, and ensuring our programs are tailored to community needs.
This is a strategic role that combines data-driven decision-making with hands-on engagement. You will manage two key functions:
Monitoring, Evaluation, & Learning (MEL): Ensuring our programs are effective, data-driven, and continuously improving.
Community Engagement: Strengthening partnerships by fostering local support of Yiya’s work and ensuring our programs align with the needs of learners, parents, and local stakeholders within the region.
Key Responsibilities
Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) (30%)
Develop and implement MEL frameworks to track and assess program impact.
Oversee data collection, analysis, and reporting to inform strategic decision-making.
Ensure compliance with data protection regulations, conducting audits and maintaining secure records.
Work closely with the MEL Specialist to produce impact reports, case studies, and data-driven insights on our current impact and where we can make improvements.
Lead internal learning sessions (e.g., Before-Action Reviews and After-Action Reviews) to drive continuous improvement.
Develop strategies to communicate Yiya’s impact effectively to stakeholders and funders.
Community Engagement & Stakeholder Management (30%)
Build and maintain relationships with local community partners, government officials, schools, and NGOs.
Oversee the Community Engagement Coordinator and support program coordinators in managing local partnerships, community events that showcase Yiya’s impact, and stakeholder communications.
Develop and implement strategies for supporting Yiya alumni and maintaining a database of our alumni.
Lead efforts to adapt Yiya’s programs to different cultural and community contexts, including developing relationships with local stakeholders in new implementation sites.
Create and maintain engagement channels with parents, students, and local leaders to gather feedback to improve program delivery, and to improve Yiya’s brand visibility.
Strategic Leadership & Team Management (40%)
Supervise the MEL Specialist and Community Engagement Coordinator, and support other program staff, providing guidance to inspire and empower the team to achieve high performance through support, mentorship, and building a cohesive team culture.
Support the team's professional development to help them work efficiently and effectively and grow their skills to progress to bigger roles.
Align MEL and Community Engagement strategies with Yiya’s overall mission and objectives.
Ensure that the learnings from MEL and Community Engagement are informing Yiya’s programmatic decisions and strategic plans
Develop timelines and set clear goals and success metrics for each team, ensuring clarity of roles and responsibilities among team members and providing the support and resources needed to optimize productivity.
Oversee and manage budgets for MEL and Community Engagement, utilizing Budget vs. Actual (BVA) reports to guide decision-making and optimize resource allocation across departments.
Contribute to organizational strategy and decision-making processes as part of the Leadership Team.
Ensure that Yiya is well represented at high-profile events, conferences, public meetings, workshops, and other engagements to advocate for the organization’s mission, and gather feedback.
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor’s degree preferred, in Education, Monitoring & Evaluation, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related field.
At least 5 years of experience in MEL, program evaluation, community engagement, direct supervision, and nonprofit management.
Experience using MEL tools such as QuickSight, SQL, R, Power BI, or similar platforms.
Demonstrable experience in data collection, analysis, and impact reporting.
Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with community stakeholders and government agencies.
Strong team leadership and project management skills.
Excellent communication, storytelling, and report-writing abilities.
